1. Palazzo della Gran Guardia

The Opening Ceremony, on Monday 14 September, will be held at Palazzo della Gran Guardia where will also take place the conference dinner on Friday 18 September.

From Tuesday 15 to Friday 18 September, the Conference will take place in the Polo Didattico Giorgio Zanotto: Viale dell’Università 4, Verona

How to reach Verona

Flight:

The nearest airport is Aeroporto Valerio Catullo (VRN) located in Villafranca di Verona. 

  • The connection to Verona city is guaranteed by Airlink shuttle service, which offers a 15-minute ride from the airport to Verona Porta Nuova station every 20 minutes. The cost of the shuttle bus is € 7,00.
  • However, there is also a taxi service available at a cost of € 26,00 for the same route. The number to call to book a taxi is: +39 045 532666.

Although further away, there is also the Aeroporto Orio al Serio (BGY) located in Bergamo. 

  • To get to Verona you can:
    • take the Airport Bus, at a cost of € 3,00, which connects the airport with Bergamo Central Station in about 15 minutes. From there, there is a train connection to Verona Porta Nuova station at the cost of  € 10,15 (there is a change at Rovato or Brescia station) and takes about 2 hours. There is also a  taxi servicefrom the airport to Bergamo railway station, which costs approximately € 17,00 and can be booked at the following number: +39 0354519090.
    • take the faster Orio al Serio Airlink which provides a direct connection between the airport and the Porta Nuova railway station in Verona in approximately 1.35 hours and the cost is € 17.90.
    • There is also a Flixbus connection from the airport terminal to Verona Porta Nuova station without any intermediate changes.

Another airport further away but still well connected to Verona is Marco Polo Airport (VCE) located in Venezia. 

  • To get to Verona it is necessary to take an ATVO shuttle to the Venezia Mestre railway station at a cost of € 12,00 and a journey time of approximately 17 minutes. From Mestre station there is a direct train connection to Verona Porta Nuova station at a cost of € 10,55 with a journey time varying from 1h to 2h15. It is also possible to take a high-speed train (Trenitalia Frecce or Italo), with a journey time of approximately 1h 30m, at a higher cost, with fares varying depending on the booking date and the type of service selected.
  • The taxi service can be contacted on +39 0415964 and the cost to reach Venezia Mestre station is € 35,00.
  • There is also a Flixbus connection from the airport terminal to Verona Porta Nuova station.

How to reach the venues

Palazzo della Gran Guardia overlooks the city’s most famous square, next to which the very well known Arena also stands. Its central location makes it easily accessible by all means of transport. If you wish to reach the venue by public transport, the most convenient stops are as follows:

Polo Zanotto is located close to Verona’s historic centre, in a lively and multicultural university area where visitors can find a wide range of restaurants, cafés and pubs, including many places outside the main tourist areas. The venue can be reached from Verona Porta Nuova railway station by public transport or on foot. 

ATV, Verona’s public transport company, operates several bus services from the square in front of the railway station, where taxis are also available; bus lines 11, 12, 13 and 52 connect Verona Porta Nuova with the university area (Bus stop Via Torbido B) and the city centre. Bus tickets (€ 1,50) can be purchased directly on board using a credit card.

The two venues are approximately a 15-minute walk from each other.

What to see in Verona: Museums and churches

Verona offers a rich cultural programme spanning from the ancient world to the contemporary era; below are some suggestions.

Verona has also been a medieval city with numerous important examples of Romanesque and Gothic architecture. Among the main churches worth visiting are:

  • Chiesa di San Fermo (Stradone S. Fermo, just across the Adige river from the university area.)
  • Basilica di Sant’Anastasia (Piazza S. Anastasia)
  • Duomo di Verona (Piazza Vescovado)
  • Basilica di San Zeno Maggiore (Piazza San Zeno)

To visit these four churches, it is possible to purchase a three-month combined ticket (€ 8.00), which is particularly convenient if you wish to visit the churches on different days during the conference. Lunch Break Suggestions

On Wednesday 16 and Friday 18 September, the lunch break will be free; therefore, below we provide some suggestions for places where you can eat.First of all, please note that the university has a cafeteria that is also open to external users and offers several options (including vegetarian ones). A special rate is available upon presentation of your badge.

In particular, for those taking part in the excursion to Verona on Wednesday 16 September, please note that the time required to have a meal both at the cafeteria and at the restaurants may be longer than usual.
